PBA: Onto the semi-finals

PBA Onto the semis

Meralco and Magnolia in, Ginebra and NLEX out. The semi-finals for the PBA Philippine Cup is now set as Magnolia and Meralco defeated NLEX and Ginebra in their do-or-die game.

It was not an easy journey for both Magnolia and Meralco. During the game between Magnolia and NLEX, they went to overtime, as both teams refused to give up their semi-finals spot. The game between Meralco on the other hand is a thriller as the two teams exchanged baskets and leads during the last minutes of the game.

Magnolia will now have to face TNT for the semi-finals, while Meralco will face San Miguel.

This will be an exciting match as both teams like to play rugged basketball especially defensively. This is a rematch of last year’s Philippine Cup finals wherein these two teams fought for the title.

Offensively, we can expect a lot of exchange of baskets from both teams especially with the presence of Paul Lee for Magnolia, and Mikey Williams for TNT. The series of these two teams will be a must-watch for all the fans.

Magnolia needs to stop Mikey William who is always on a hot shooting in order for them to win. Moreover, for TNT to win this series, they need to continue playing defensively, and take advantage of the speed they will get from Jayson Castro and Mikey Williams.

Prediction:

Magnolia Hotshots (2.5)
Odds: 0.92

Even with the absence of their head coach, Norman Black, the Meralco team was able to come this far. Meralco needs to make sure that Chris Newsome and Aaron Black will produce their usual numbers because it is one of their basis whether they will win or not. During their first meeting during the eliminations, Meralco was able to beat San Miguel. The team needs to stick on their defense and hold San Miguel way before their conference average.

On the other hand, if San Miguel wants to win, they need to take advantage of their priced center, Junmar Fajardo. Although the Bolts have Raymond Almazan to defend Fajardo, the way Fajardo plays right now is different. Moreover, their guard Chris Ross is reported to play on their first meeting with Meralco.

Prediction:

San Miguel (3.0)
Odds: 0.88
