Hungary pursues top spot

Hungary pursues top spot

Hungary is looking to claim the top spot of their group, with a win against Lithuania, who is looking to escape the bottom of the standings. Hungary is currently at the second of the Group G standing with four points. Lithuania on the other hand is at the fourth with a single point from their two games in the contest. From their last six meetings, Hungary dominated Lithuania, as they won five of those meetings, and Lithuania with no wins. Their draw happen in 2001, where the game ended in a 1-1 draw for both teams. Additionally, these two teams have different momentum coming into this match, as Hungary is unbeaten in their last five matches. Meanwhile, it is the complete opposite for Lithuania, as they are without a win in their last 12 matches across all contests. This meeting will be on June 21, 2023, at 2:45 AM (GMT+8), with Hungary as hosts.

Hungary is coming into this match from a goalless draw against Montenegro, and are now looking to bounce back from that match. It is just unfortunate that they were not able to extend their winning run on their previous match. Before that draw against Montenegro, they are actually in a three-game winning streak, including their 3-0 win in the opening. Now, they are at the second of the standings with four points, and are just two points behind the team at the top. A win in this match will bring Hungary at the top of the standings, which they are aiming for. It is not impossible though, considering the momentum they have right now. Now that they have the chance to return to winning ways, expect Hungary to go all-out here.

Hungary is expected to use the same line-up from their previous match, as there are no injuries reported for this squad. However, they will be without Lasickas, who will be serving suspension due to his dismissal against Bulgaria.

Lithuania on the other hand is at the fourth of the group standings with a single point in their names. From their first two matches in the contest, they are still unbeaten, drawing one, and losing to one. However, a win in this match could make them go up to the third or second of the standings, as they will be with four points. Just like their opponent, they are from a draw on their last game, against Bulgaria, where the game ended in 1-1. Moreover, they do not have that good momentum coming into this match as they are winless in their last 12 games. This is the record they finally want to end, so they could still have a chance for qualification. With that, expect Lithuania to go all-out in this game to stop their unpleasant run.

Lithuania will be without Justas Lasickas who received a red card during their match against Bulgaria. Due to this, Lasickas was suspended from this match, which is unfortunate for Lithuania.
