Zambia is looking to get closer to defend their title by winning their semi-finals meeting against South Africa in the COSAFA Cup. Both Zambia and South Africa are not a stranger when it comes to the finals, as they are two of the most successful teams in the contest. Zambia already won six titles, while South Africa have won five. Moreover, from their last five meetings, it was Zambia who holds a narrow win, winning two matches. Meanwhile, South Africa only have one win, and the remaining two matches ended in draw. Zambia finished at the second of their group stage, earning six points, while South Africa finished at the top with seven points. The semi-finals meeting between these two powerful squads will be on July 15, 2023, at 12:00 AM (GMT+8).

Zambia is currently the moist successful team in the contest, as they already earned six titles in their history. Along with those six titles, are six runners-up as well, and one each for the third and the fourth place. In fact, they are the defending champions from the 2022 edition, a title they want to retain here. Zambia finished at the second of their group standings with six points, after starting their campaign with a 1-0 loss to Malawi. Fortunately though, they were able to pick up themselves and win their next two matches. They had a 2-0 win against both Seychelles, and Comoros, that earned them a qualification in the contest. As they battle for this important match, Zambia is hoping to pick up from the confidence they earned from their last two matches.

Due to the injury scare Abraham Siankombo suffered during their last match, he was listed as a doubt in this match. If Siankombo would be unavailable for this match, he is expected to be replaced by Golden Mashata.

South Africa on the other hand is also a team earning a success in the contest, earning five titles. However, South Africa never had a runners-up finish, so it means all their finals appearance ended with a title. Aside from their five titles, they had one third and fourth place finish in the contest. They finished at the top of their group standings with seven points, after being unbeaten in the group. South Africa started their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Namibia. Luckily for them, they were able to pick up themselves and had a 2-1 win against Botswana and Eswatini. Last season, they were not able to enter the top four of the contest, which is why they are eager to win in this match. Additionally, they last won the title during the 2021 season, and are aiming for the same finish here.

Following his performance against Eswatini, Tshegofatso Mabasa could be featured in this match as well. Bonginkosi Makume on the other hand is hoping to regain his spot in the starters in this important match.

Prediction:

Zambia (1.5)
Odds: -0.97
