Both Turkey and Austria are considered to be one of the dark horses this season. This is proved during their group stage, being impressive in their campaign. Austria had a successful group stage, recovering from a defeat to France and a 3-0 defeat to Portugal. Turkey, however, had a mixed journey, having wins over Georgia and the Czech Republic and a 3-0 defeat to Portugal in Group F. The team was without captain Hakan Çalhanoglu and defender Samet Akaydin due to suspension following a chaotic clash with the Czech Republic. Turkey’s Arda Güler and Kenan Yildiz made it the first team to name two teenagers in a knockout game at the European Championship since Hungary against Denmark in 1964.
