Spain U19 eyes closer shot to the title

Spain U19 meets Italy U19 for their semi-finals meeting with aims of entering the finals once again, after failing to do so last edition. Spain failed to enter the semi-finals during the 2022 edition of the contest. As for Italy, they played better last season, qualifying for the semi-finals. It is just unfortunate that they were not able to clinch the title on that edition. Spain was able to enter the final four by remaining unbeaten in their group stage, which made them sit at the top of the standings. Italy on the other hand finished at the second with just four points, winning once, drawing once, and losing to one. Both Italy and Spain are actually hungry for the title, which made this match a more exciting one. The fight for their spots in the finals will be on July 14, 2023, at 3:00 AM (GMT+8).

Spain are coming into this game from an impressive group stage, where they remain unbeaten in the group stage. They earned their seven points by winning their two matches and drawing their match against Norway. Nonetheless, their dominance in the group stage gives them confidence in this match for a shot in the finals. During the 2019 edition, Spain were able to bag the title, with a 2-0 win against Portugal. Additionally, they are in fact one of the most successful teams in the contest, winning eight title since 2002. During the group stage, Spain opened their campaign in a strong way, winning against Iceland in a 2-1 win. After that win, they thrashed Greece by the score line of 5-0, and ended the group with a goalless draw against Norway. They are coming into this game with one goal in mind, and that is to clinch another title, to add to their history.

During their last group game, Spain made some changes for their squad, to rest some of their stars. However, now that they are facing a tough team in the semis, expect that their regular starters will return. Victor Barbera, and Ivan Fresnada are expected to lead their squads in attacks and defense respectively.

Italy’s campaign in the group stage did not end as smooth as Spain’s, as they experienced mixed results from their group campaign. They ended at the second of their group as they only have four points from their campaign. They opened their campaign with an impressive 4-0 win against Malta, but lost to their second game against Portugal. Additionally, they had a 1-1 draw against Poland to end their group stage. When it comes to the semi-finals, Italy are no longer new, as they reached this stage for five times already. Their last appearance in the semi-finals is during the 2022 edition, where they end up the fourth place. Moreover, they last entered the finals in 2018, where they had a narrow 4-3 loss against Portugal, who bagged the title. Additionally, Italy only have one title in their history, and that is during the 2003 edition, 20 years ago.

Giacomo Faticanti will captain Italy in this match, and he is expected to lead his squad to the finals. Additionally, Italy are fortunate that they will finally have Luca Lipani back for them as he is returning from his suspension.
