Sevilla FC campaigns for fourth victory

Sevilla FC eyes to finally get their fourth win in La Liga with a win over Deportivo Alaves, to somehow improve their standings. In the league table, Sevilla and Alaves are actually just next to each other, with one point difference. Sevilla sits at the 16th of the league table with just 16 points from their 19 matches. However, Sevilla‘s current run does not look optimistic at all, as they are just two places above the drop zone. On the other hand, Alaves are just slightly better, sitting at the 15th of the league table with 17 points. Just like their opponent, Alaves also needs to win here, or they are on the verge of dropping at the drop zone. The meeting between these two teams is on January 13, 2023, at 4:00 AM (GMT+8).

Sevilla have appointed Quique Sanchez Flores as their third permanent manager of the season, following the departure of Jose Luis Mendilibar and Diego Alonso. Sanchez Flores has managed two wins and two defeats in his four matches, including a 2-1 win over Racing Ferrol in the last-16 stage of the Copa del Rey. However, the team has lost their last two matches in Spain’s top flight against Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao, leaving them in 16th spot in the table. Sevilla finished in 12th position last term, their worst final spot since 1999-2000, and has struggled to improve since finishing fourth in three of the last four campaigns. The team is only one point ahead of 18th-placed Cadiz.

Sevilla faces several injuries, including Nemanja Gudelj, Dodi Lukebakio, Mariano Diaz, Alfonso Pastor, Joan Jordan, Marcos Acuna, Jesus Navas, Erik Lamela, and Orjan Nyland. Youssef En-Nesyri is set to represent Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Alaves, currently 15th in the Spanish top flight, has a record of four wins, five draws, and 10 defeats from 19 matches, bringing them 17 points. However, they have struggled with goals, only managing 15 in their 19 matches, the second-worst attacking record behind Cadiz. Despite this, they have conceded only 25 times, a solid record considering their position. Alaves secured a return to Spain’s top flight through last season’s Segunda Division playoffs, making any position above the relegation zone a successful campaign. They entered this match after a 1-0 victory over Real Betis in the Copa del Rey round of 32 and a 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad in their last league match. Alaves has also unbeaten in their last three top-flight fixtures with Sevilla, including a 4-3 win earlier this season.

Alaves will miss Jon Guridi and Aleksandar Sedlar due to injury, while Abdel Abqar is heading to the Africa Cup of Nations. Giuliano Simeone recovers from an ankle issue, and changes from the Copa del Rey start with Andoni Gorosabel, Antonio Blanco, and Samu Omorodion.

Prediction:

Sevilla FC (1.5)
