The World Cup will be held in Asia for the second time around, after Saudi is announced as the host for 2034. Saudi announced that they will bid for the prized tournament, just minutes after FIFA opens the bidding. Moreover, Australia previously expressed their intention to bid, but pulled out later on, as they focus more on other contests. Additionally, according to FA, they explored all the factors to host the tournament in 2034. “We have explored the opportunity to bid to host the FIFA World Cup,” they said. However, they added that having all these factors, they concluded not to do so for the 2034 edition. Since Australia backed out, it leaves Saudi as the lone bidder, which made them likely to be the hosts. However, according to FIFA, they still need to conduct further assessment.
FIFA said that they will “conduct thorough bidding and evaluation processes” for the 2030 and 2034 tournaments. For the 2030 tournament, Spain, Portugal, and Morocco are expected to co-host the contest. FIFA then assured the bidders that they will keep in touch, for them to evaluate the requirements of the interested countries. Additionally, they also said that the “priority areas for the bidding are the infrastructures, services, commercial and sustainability, and the human rights of the countries.
