Playoff showdown: Connecticut Sun vs Dallas Wings

Playoff showdown Connecticut Sun vs Dallas Wings

Playoff round starts anew for the WNBA and the Connecticut Sun will take the Dallas Wings for their best-of-three series. It has been a good season for the Sun as they were 3rd in the ranking, but this match might not be ideal for them. These two teams already met three times this season, but two of those three meetings were won by the Wings. The Wings may be sixth in the standing, but when it comes to meeting the Sun, they are the advantaged.

The battle between these two teams is a competition between balanced teams because they have a match for each other. The turning point of this match is the fact that the Sun is healthier than the Wings. Although both team qualified for the first round of the playoffs, the Wings came here with some injury concerns that might ruin their chance in this series.

As a team who was the title favorite last season, the Sun surely brings a lot of pressure this season. However, despite the high expectations with them, Chicago upsets them in the semifinals. Coming into this series, they were the the 3rd in the standings. For the Connecticut Sun, they do well in their defense and has many other bench player that are underrated, but a weapon for the team.

If the Sun wants to win this series, they must first stop the center of the Wings, Teaira McCowan, which they are capable of. McCowan is doing well to boost the Wings. Here mere presence makes a huge difference for the Wings. However, for the Sun, the trio of Brionna Jones, Jonquel Jones, and Alyssa Thomas is more than enough to stop her.

This team exceed the expectations of the many after they played very well at the second half of the season. They played at a high level, enabling them to secure the sixth spot in the standings. However, this series might be tougher than expected for them as they will play without their number one player, Arike Ogunbowale because of an injury. The team will also play without Satou Sabally, and Isabelle Harrison because of injuries as well.

The Wings’ perimeter shooting will be their edge going into this series. They will rely to the guards, especially Marina Mabrey, and Allisha Gray to play well. As for the blockings and rebounds, expect Teaira McCowan to do that for the squad.

These two teams will have their first game on August 19, 2022, at 8:00 AM (GMT+8).
