Paris Saint-Germain off for better start

Paris Saint-Germain lock horns with Montpellier HSC with hopes to start their February with a win, after unpleasant run in January. PSG comes from yet another setback as they continue their search for another title in the tournament. Coming into this game, Montpellier is the one with better record as they are from a 2-0 win. PSG on the other hand was held to a 1-1 draw on their last game against Reims. Montpellier will be hosting this match on February 2, 2023, at 4:00 AM (GMT+8).

During the last 40 matches between these two teams, the visitors have a better record, which is not surprising. They recorded 19 victories, as opposed to the eight wins from the hosts, while the remaining 13 ended in draw. In Ligue 1, it seems like the hosts are struggling against the visitors, losing nine of their last 10 meetings. PSG on the other hand is no better because since their return from the World Cup, they only had seven points. Additionally, they are also struggling on the road, losing their last three away games in the contest.

Despite their recent-unfortunate runs, this squad is still lucky to start their season strong, making them retain the top spot. Currently, PSG is still at the top of the league table with 48 points. However, if they want to continue being at that spot, they need wins, as Lens, who is at the second is just three points behind them. They already need to stop their slump, which they experience in recent weeks. On their previous meeting, they had a disappointing 1-1 draw against Reims. With that, they have plenty of work to do if they want to defend their title in the contest.

This squad will be without Verratti, who will be serving his suspension because of a red card on their game against Reims. Mukiele, and Kimpembe are both absent in this game as they are still sidelined because of their injuries. Luckily, Nuno Mendes returns from his muscle problem.

Currently at the 14th place of the league table with 20 points, this team is hopeful to get an additional three points. A win in this match could give this squad a chance to go up to the 13th with 23 points. They are not at their best this season, but they are lucky to have a 2-0 win against Auxerre on their last game. However, they are not going against an easy team, so they need to work hard to get the same result. Although this team were able to trouble PSG in the past, they have issues that needs to be addressed. If they can address these issues, then they stand a chance in this game.

Luckily, there are no fresh injuries for this squad, in fact, Jordan Ferri is set to return in this game. But Pedro Mendes remains to be a doubt, as they are still waiting if he can recover from his hamstring injury.

Prediction:

Paris Saint-Germain (2.0)
