Women's World Cup: Norway Women

Norway is a team who never missed a single World Cup edition, which gives them the experience advantage coming into this match. In fact, they are the third most successful team in the contest, earning four last four finish. They bagged the title in 1995, runners-up in 1991, and finished the fourth in 1999, and 2007. Additionally, in their campaign, there is only one edition where they failed to escape the group stage, during the 2011 edition. In 2019, they finished at the quarter-finals, but they unfortunately lost against England in a 3-0 defeat. Now that they have another chance to try to win a title, expect them to aim for a strong start here. Despite not having a good momentum coming into this game, expect Norway to go all-out as they kick-off their campaign.

Maren Mjelde and Mathilde Harviken are both manning the defense for Norway. Meanwhile, Caroline Graham Hansen is the on in-charge when attacking, due to her critical attacking efforts. They also have Ada Hegerberg who is looking to add to her tally goals for her country.

New Zealand on the other hand is now on their sixth qualification in the World Cup, after being qualified as this year’s co-host. However, unlike their opponents, New Zealand never go past through the group stage in the World Cup. Additionally, in their last 15 World Cup games, they have yet to record a single win, proving their struggles internationally. This is a record they want to finally put an end, especially now that they have the home crowd advantage. However, just like their opponents, they are a team who does not have a good momentum coming into this game. They managed to win only one of their last 11 games, and eight of those ended with a defeat. During the weekend, they also lost to their last friendlies match against Italy. It was a 1-0 loss, which could have been huge as they prepare for a strong start in their campaign.

Victoria Esson will start as the goalkeeper for New Zealand, while Ria Percival will be finally returning for New Zealand, following her injury. Additionally, Hannah Wilkinson will lead her country in the line.

Prediction:

Norway Women (3.0)
Odds: -0.97
