Man City’s Pep Guardiola’s team secured their Champions League opener with a comeback win against Red Star Belgrade. The Citizens, who had 37 shots and 76% possession, won the game with a brace from Julian Alvarez. Moreover, a composed finish from Rodri, extending their club record of successive home wins to 19 in all competitions. City’s recent success at the Etihad has been attributed to their 27-game unbeaten home run in the Champions League. Additionally, they won all 12 Premier League home games in 2023, scoring 35 goals. They aim to claim another three points and become the second reigning Premier League champion after Chelsea in 2005-06 to win their opening six top-flight games of a season when they face Nottingham Forest.

Unfortunately, Bernardo Silva have been ruled out for the “next few weeks” due to his leg injury. He joins Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones, and Jack Gealish in the treatment room. Mateo Kovacic on the other hand may return here, after being unavailable for two matches due to an issue in his muscle.

Forest were expected to win Burnley in their Premier League match. However, Callum Hudson-Odoi’s second-half strike saved a 1-1 draw for Steve Cooper’s side. Forest has already faced Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea away from home this season. From those matches, they accumulated seven points from their first five games. However, they face another tricky away trip at the home of the reigning champions, Manchester City. Forest’s 1-0 victory at Chelsea in their last match on the road is one of just two away league wins in 14 games since the turn of the year. They have failed to win any of their last six league meetings with Man City, and the only time Forest has celebrated success at the Etihad was in January 2009 when they stunned the Citizens with a 3-0 FA Cup win under former caretaker boss John Pemberton.

Harry Toffolo is ruled out in this game as he is facing suspension. As for Danilo, he is a doubt here as he still have hamstring injury. Meanwhile, Felipe, Wayne Hennessey, and Serge Aurier are also doubts because of their injuries. On the other hand, Willy Boly needs to be assessed, before earning a green signal for this match.
