Kai Havertz joins Arsenal from Chelsea

Kai Havertz finally joins Arsenal for a long-term deal, in a £65 million move, after several clubs made offers offers for him. During his three years stay in Chelsea, Havertz actually had an underwhelming campaign. According to reports, football giants, Real Madrid is also interested in him, following the departure of Karim Benzema. Additionally, Bayern Munich is also one of the teams who showed interest for Havertz. However, it seems like the asking price for Chelsea hindered Real and Bayern to finalize their deal with Havertz. Following this signing, he is now the first signing for Arsenal during this transfer window. With Havertz‘s addition to Arsenal, they are hoping to finally bag the title for the first time since 2003.

In a statement from Arsenal, they expressed how will Havertz be a key player for them, considering how he played in club and international level. At the age of 24, he already had 35 appearances for the German national squad, making 13 goals. From those appearances, it includes two major tournament, which has been helpful for him. Moreover, for Chelsea, he stayed in the club for three years, having 139 appearances, and scoring 32 goals. From those goals, it includes the lone goal during the 2021 Champions League final, that brings Chelsea the title. According to Arsenal’s sporting director, Edu, they are excited to have Havertz for their squad, because of his quality and versatility.

He added that Havertz’s signing strengthens the core of their young guns. “Kai is an exciting addition to our squad, who will bring great attacking quality and versatility. His signing represents another important step in strengthening our young core at Arsenal,” he said. As for their manager, he believes that the addition of Havertz strengthens their midfield and variety to their play. He then added that they are beyond ready to start training with him, and see what he has in-store for Arsenal.

As for Havertz, one of the reasons why he signed in Arsenal is the mentality the club has, and the history Arsenal have. “The mentality in the Arsenal squad is very high and you can fee that. That was one of the reasons why it has been so hard to play against Arsenal recently,” he said. In addition to that, he assured the club that they share the same goal- to win trophies. “The aim is to win trophies and I’m going to give everything to do that for the supporters and everyone at the club. I’m looking forward to meeting all the players and the staff when we come back for pre-season,” he added.

Following this transfer, Havertz is expected to join their squad’s training earlier this month, and will be wearing jersey number 29.
