India Cricket will close series

Indian Cricket will close series

The India Cricket team is just a win away from securing their series win against the cricket team of Sri Lanka, when they meet for their 2nd ODI match. This meeting will be on January 12, 2023, at 3:30 PM (GMT+8), with India as hosts. India is leading the series with 1-0, as they won on their first ODI match. On that match, the Indian squad emerged to be victorious by 67 runs. Sri Lanka on the other hand will not allow the Indian team to close the series by this match. They are expected to force this series in a decider match, hoping to bounce back from their T20I loss.

When it comes to ODI series, India and Sri Lanka are actually not new to each other, as they met quite frequently in this format. In fact, these two teams met for 163 times already in the ODI format, with India winning majority of it. The hosts won 94 from those matches, with the visitors winning only 57, one ended in tie. However, there are 11 that did not produce a winner from both teams. Looking at their current statistics from their recent meetings, India won 11 of their last 13 ODI meetings versus Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka on the other hand, last won over India way back 2017 on the ODI format.

During their 1st ODI, the Indian Cricket team registered a dominating win against the same opponents, getting them the lead in the series. They defeated Sri Lanka by 67 runs, escaping the late run produced by their opponents. Overall, this team produced a massive 373 runs, for the loss of seven wickets on the board. Looking at these numbers, it is no longer surprising that the Indian team was able to put up such numbers, as they have a very talented team. Coming into this game, the Indian team are hoping to finally secure another series against Sri Lanka. If that happens, they swept both their T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka. However, they must not be overconfident, as their opponent will surely make things hard for them.

On their 1st ODI, India opted to sit out Ishan Kishan, and include Shubman Gill for their playing XI. Gill then proved that this is the best decision for India as he is the most prolific run-getter in the ODI. For this match, the Indian team is hoping for the same performance from him and from the rest of the team.

During the 1st ODI, it is clear that they were outplayed by India on that match, but despite the loss, there are some encouraging signs for them. There are several guys who were able to step-up for Sri Lanka on this match. Pathum Nissanka scored 72, while Dhananjaya de Silva also contributed 40-ball 47. However, even though these guys managed to step-up in this game, the underperformance of their bowlers are seen in that match. The bowlers need to do a much-improved performance if they want to stand a chance against India. The lack of experience is what stops Sri Lanka’s bowlers to be as good this series. They need to overcome the fear of being inexperienced to win this match, or India would win comfortably once again.

Dilshan Madushanka’s status for this 2nd ODI remains unclear as he suffered dislocation on his right shoulder during their 1st ODI. Thankfully, Wanindu Hasaranga is there for them, to lead Sri Lanka, one of the best spinners in T20I.

Prediction:

Toss Winner: Sri Lanka Cricket (1.95)
