FC Internazionale Milano eyes first UCL win

FC Internazionale Milano is looking to claim their first Champions League win this season as they are face SL Benfica in the contest. Last season, Inter reached the finals, but were not able to get the title when they faced Man City. Meanwhile, Benfica finished at the quarterfinals last season, and it was Inter who eliminated them. Moreover, these two teams are not that familiar with each other, as they only played five European matches. From those matches, it is not surprising that Inter recorded more wins, winning two of those matches. Meanwhile, Benfica remains to be winless, as the other three matches all ended in draws by both teams. As Benfica eyes revenge against Inter, these two teams meet on October 4, 2023, at 3:00 AM (GMT+8).

Inter Milan, currently in second place in their UEFA Champions League group, is confident ahead of their upcoming match against Benfica. Despite criticism for rotating heavily for their opening game at Sociedad, Inter boss Simone Inzaghi may lean on his tried and tested side against Benfica. The star of the match could be Lautaro Martinez, who scored four times in Inter’s Serie A victory over Salernitana. Inzaghi will hope Martinez is at his best on Tuesday as the Nerazzurri aim to defeat a side they eliminated in their previous continental success. Inter’s European form at San Siro since losing 2-0 to Bayern Munich in September 2022 has seen them go five unbeaten and keep four clean sheets.

Davide Frattesi, Marko Arnautovic, Stefano Sensi, and Juan Cuadrado all remains to be unavailable in the contest due to their injuries. With that, Martinez, and Marcus Thuram are likely to start here.

Benfica, currently in the bottom of Group D of the UEFA Champions League, will face FC Porto in a match aimed at securing a similar result. The Portuguese side held Inzaghi’s men to a 3-3 draw in last season’s quarter-final clash at San Siro, but were 3-1 up on the night and 5-1 ahead on aggregate before Schmidt’s team levelled. Benfica were beaten 2-0 by Salzburg in matchday one, ending their eight-game undefeated run in the group stage. Schmidt’s men have claimed back-to-back league wins since that defeat, giving the away side momentum before Tuesday’s encounter. With Benfica currently fourth in Group D, another defeat leaves them playing catch-up early into the group phase, and it remains to be seen if they will secure the required result in Italy.

Antonio Silva is unavailable coming into this match, as he needs to serve suspension, after being dismissed against Salzburg. Fortunately, they have no fresh injuries coming into this game, which will work for their advantage.

Prediction:

FC Internazionale Milano (2.0)
Odds: -0.91
