As a new La Liga season begins, RCD Espanyol and Rayo Vallecano will have a face-off and try to secure their first win this season. The last match of these two clubs ended in draw. Espanyol managed to erase a two-goal deficit against Celta Vigo during their last match. On the other hand, Vallecano was able to stop a newly reformed Barcelona.
Espanyol is currently placed 8th in the standings of this La Liga season. Vallecano on the other hand is placed 13th in the current league standings despite an impressive opening. Out of the 27 matches played between these two clubs, 11 of which were won by Espanyol. Although only nine were won by Vallecano in those 27 matches, it does not mean that they do not stand a chance in this match. They were nothing but impressive during the start of this season.
RCD Espanyol
During their last game against Celta Vigo, Espanyol showed spirit despite being down by two goals. On the final 18 minutes of that match, they managed to score two goals and ending up tie with Celta Vigo. However, despite the match ending in draw, for the team’s new manager, Diego Martinez, this feels like a win already. As a new manager, it is difficult for him to make his players adjust to his system. So, a draw is a good start for Martinez. Last season, the club was not able to play well as they were winless in their eight consecutive matches, and conceded almost every start of the match.
Reports say that Raul de Tomas will not play for this match as he is on his way out of the club already. The club will have to rely on Sergi Darder in providing assists for the team. While Brian Olivan, and Oscar Gil is expected to provide width in the attack.
Rayo Vallecano
Now ranked 12th in La Liga, this is already an accomplishment for Vallecano, but they can achieve more. In fact, the squad managed to climb to the Champions League, without being defeated at home until Christmas. However, they were winless for 13 straight matches. The squad only lost one out of their five away games in La Liga, but they lost nine out of 11 away matches.
As for their squad, it will not be a problem as all their players are healthy and fit to play this match.
