Ilkay Gundogan ended his seven-year stay with Manchester City, after finalizing his signing with FC Barcelona for a two-year deal. This transfer happened just weeks after Man City won a historic treble, winning in the Champions League. Gundogan‘s two-year deal with Barcelona includes a whopping £342 million release clause. Additionally, the deal also includes an option for Gundogan to extend his contract for 12 more months. During his seven years with Man City, he was able to contribute 60 goals in his 304 matches with Man City. Additionally, he also ended his campaign with the club with 12 trophies, including their recent treble.

Gundogan turned down Man City’s offer to stay with the club, thus his transfer to Barcelona. He was actually Pep Guardiola’s first signing for Man City when Guardiola first joined the club. As he is now joining a new club with new level of competition, he is hopeful that he could bring his experience for Barcelona. According to Barcelona’s manager, Xavi, he is hoping that Gundogan’s experience can provide additional power for his squad. As Gundogan have proved countless times that he is an all-around midfielder, and will be a huge addition for Barcelona.
