Cleveland Cavaliers lean on defense

Cleveland Cavaliers takes advantage of their defense when they meet the Washington Wizards for yet another meeting in the regular season. On their last meeting in October, their game went into overtime, but is eventually won by the Cavaliers in a 117-110 win. Coming into this game, the Cavaliers are from a win, but it is the opposite for the Wizards. This is the momentum they are hoping to continue, to improve their chances for the playoffs. Cleveland and Wizards meet on February 7, 2023, at 8:00 AM (GMT+8), with the Wizards as hosts.

These two teams are actually in the Eastern Conference, but the visitors are in a much-safe place. The hosts are at the 10th of the standings, and are in desperate need of wins to avoid elimination. From their 52 matches, they only won 24 games, where 12 of those were from their home games. As for the visitors, they are currently at the fifth of the Eastern Conference with 33 wins from their 55 games. From those 33 wins, 11 of those are coming from their 27 away games, a not-so-good record. This squad actually started strong this season, no wonder they were able to establish themselves in the standings.

Although the Cavaliers are already secured of a spot in the playoffs, they are still hoping to go up the standings. This squad have been very efficient offensively, as they are the sixth in field goal percentage, and 10th in shooting percentage. However, although they are doing well in offense, their real strengths comes in their defense. In fact, it has been their key to crush the Grizzlies on their previous game. It is just unfortunate that Mitchell got ejected, due to an altercation with Brooks. Luckily, after his ejection, many stepped up for the Cavaliers. Garland, Osman, Allen, and Mobley all produced double digits on that game, leading their team to a win. Offensively, they are the 26th, scoring 111.6 points per game, but first in defense, giving up just 106.9 points per game.

Donovan Mitchel and Darius Garland leads the Cavaliers with 27.1 points and 22 points per game. However, LeVert remains to be a doubt in this game, while Windler is still out following his ankle injury.

Washington Wizards

As the Wizards continue to fight for their playoff spot, it is unfortunate that the Wizards suffered a defeat against the Nets. They are actually in a six-game winning streak before January ended. However, they followed it with two straight defeats, which did not helped them in their aim for a secured playoff spot. Right now, they are the 10th in the Eastern Conference, and in the verge of missing the playoffs. It was a narrow 125-123 loss that pushed the Wizards deeper in the standings. It was a tough game against the Wizards, as they actually had a 23-point lead on that match. Nonetheless, the Wizards are now ready to bounce back to secure their spot in the playoffs. They are the 19th in offense with 113.3 points per game, and the 14th in defense, giving up 113.5 points per game.

Kristaps Porzingis lead the Wizards with 22.5 points per game. Bradley Beal is also contributing 22.4 points per game, but is listed as questionable due to his foot injury.
