Chelsea ends goalless performance

Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion are both looking to return to winning ways, after their loss from their last matches. Chelsea is coming from a 1-0 loss against the Wolves, while Brighton is from a 2-1 loss against the Spurs. With that, both teams are hoping to bounce back from their losses to improve their standings. Moreover, these two teams are also from contrasting runs in the tournament. While Brighton lost to just four of their last 18 matches, Chelsea only had four wins from their last 21 games. These two teams will meet each other on April 15, 2023, at 10:00 PM (GMT+8), with Chelsea playing as host.

Surprisingly, these two teams only had 12 encounters in their history, where it was the hosts who holds the advantage. The hosts had six wins from those 12 meetings, while the visitors only have two wins, and the remaining four ended in draw. In the league table, it was the visitors who has a better place. They are at the seventh of the league table with 46 points across their names. However, they are just a point behind the sixth place, so they aim for an additional three points to improve their place. The hosts on the other hand are having an underwhelming performance which puts them at the 11th of the league table. They are with 39 points, and an additional three points could bring them at the 10th with 42 points.

This season, Chelsea’s struggles are visible, winning only four of their last 21 matches. In fact, they are coming into this match form a 1-0 loss against the Wolves, their fourth successive match where they failed to score a goal. During that recent loss, it was Matheus Nunes from the Wolves who helped his squad to score a goal. Chelsea on the other hand is hopeful not to extend this momentum, as it will cost them to continuously drop in the league table. One of the reasons why Chelsea’s season does not look as good as it should be is because of their transfers. They signed Marc Cucurella from Brighton, then later on, sacking their manager, Potter. As they play in this match, they are hopeful to finally end these misfortunes and pick up themselves for this season.

It is just unfortunate that Kalidou Koulibaly emerged as a doubt in this match, following the muscle problem he sustained. Carney Chukwuemeka is also a doubt, while Armando Broja remains to be out, as he is out of the season already. Fortunately, Silva, Azpilicueta, and Mount will all return in this match.

Brighton on the other hand is also coming from a 2-1 loss against the Spurs, however, they have a good momentum coming into this match. On that match, only Lewis Dunk scored a goal for Brighton. They only have four losses from their last 18 matches, which gives them the confidence here. Brighton are capable of recognizing talents, acquiring underrated talents across the world. Although one of the reasons are their cheap fees, these underrated players proved what they are capable of. Moises Caicedo, Kaoru Mitoma, and Pascal Gross, are some of the people who brought great success for Brighton. As they come into this game, they are hopeful to once again resume their unbeaten run in the contest.

Levi Colwill is an absentee for this match, as he is ineligible to play against his parent club, while Lallana, Sarmiento, and Moder are all unavailable due to injuries. Tariq Lamptey on the other hand will be needing assessment in order to know if he can play here or not.
