Cesc Fabregas shocked everyone with the announcement of his retirement through a post on his official Instagram account. Although it is already the end of Febregas‘ playing career, his football career does not end, as he transitioned into coaching. During his active years, Fabregas actually had a colorful career, winning almost in all leagues. He won the World Cup with Spain in 2010, bagged the Premier League title twice with Chelsea, and a La Liga title with Barcelona. Moreover, he was also able to win two FA Cup title, and a European Championship silverware. Before his announcement of retirement, he last played for the Serie B side, Como, despite having a two-year contract. He ended his playing career one year into that two-year contract.

Fabregas took to social media to announce his retirement, “It is with great sadness that the time has come for me to hang up my playing boots,” he said. Despite the retirement at the age of 36, he is left with no regrets, as he is one of the key to his team’s success, no matter the league. In fact, throughout his career, he made 739 first-team club appearances. Moreover, from those appearances, he was able to score 125 goals, 217 assists, and won 17 titles. He first played for Arsenal, where he debuted as early as the age of 16, playing eight seasons for them. In his statement both in Twitter and Instagram, he announced that he will be crossing the white line and start coaching. “It’s not all sadness though as I’m going to cross the white line and start coaching the B and Primavera teams of Como 1907. This charming football team won my heart from the first minute and came to me at the perfect time in my career,” he said.

He then thanked all the people behind his success, including his teammates, coaches, directors, owners, and fans. “So after 20 incredible years full of sacrifice, dedication, and joy, it’s time to say thank you and goodbye to the beautiful game,” he said as he ended his post.
