Brazil Women to ensure safe start

Brazil Women are looking for an optimistic start in the World Cup by aiming to win against Panama Women, who are aiming for the same thing. However, Brazil has the advantage coming into this match when it comes to experience. They qualified in all editions of the World Cup, which would work really well for their advantage. As for Panama, experience is their disadvantage here, because unlike their opponents, this is the first time they qualify in the World Cup. As this is their first World Cup ever, they are hoping that they could make the most out of it. The first meeting between these two teams will be on July 24, 2023, at 7:00 PM (GMT+8).

This is already the ninth appearance of Brazil in the World Cup, as they participated in all editions of the contest. Since the 1999 edition of the World Cup, their worst finish is a round-of-16 finish, including their 2019 campaign. They are a team who never bagged a title in the World Cup, but were able to have a runners-up and a third place finish. During their last friendlies match against Chile, Brazil were able to bag a comfortable 4-0 win. This is a huge boost for their confidence as they are aiming to try to win their first title in the World Cup. They qualified in the World Cup after being crowned as the Copa America Femenina champions. Additionally, when it comes to their opening games, they won all their openers in their past eight appearances. As they kick-off their campaign, they are hopeful to retain that momentum.

Kathellen, and Rafaelle will both star in defense for Brazil, while Antonia and Tamires will both operate in the full-backs. Moreover, Geyse will pose as Brazil’s main threat when it comes to goal scoring, along with Gabi Nunes.

Panama is one of the teams who are set to debut in the World Cup stage in this edition, so expect this squad to go all-out here. They were able to book their spots in the contest after they defeated Paraguay in a 1-0 win during the qualifiers. Unfortunately though, they do not have a good momentum coming into this game, as they suffered a 5-0 loss against Japan in the friendlies. It was a devastating loss for Panama as it could have brought them a confidence coming here. In addition to that, in seven of Panama’s last 10 matches, they failed to score a single goal. Nonetheless, Panama is aiming to leave a mark through their first game in the World Cup. Despite not having that much confidence coming into this game, Panama will still go all-out in this match.

Wendy Natis, Yomira Pinzon, and Carina Baltrip-Reyes are all looking to man the centre-backs. Meanwhile, Katherine Castillo, and Hilary Jaen will both patrol the wing-back.
