AS Roma is looking to win the first leg of their semi-finals series against Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League, to get closer to their much-awaited title. Roma and Leverkusen comes into this match with same aim. They are both aiming to move a step closer to the to the Europa League title. However, it is unfortunate that these two teams are both coming from their respective losses. Leverkusen is from a 2-1 loss against FC Koln, while Roma suffered a 2-0 loss against Inter Milan. Due to these results, both teams are eager to bounce back, especially that this match is crucial for them. This meeting will be hosted by Roma on May 12, 2023, at 3:00 AM (GMT+8).

These two teams already played four matches prior to this game, and both are on an even footing. From their four matches in the European stage, both teams have won once each, while the remaining two ended in draw. However, it has been eight years since these two teams last met each other. Their last meeting was way back in 2015, where it was the hosts who came out victorious in a 3-2 win. Additionally, this is the third consecutive season that the host have qualified in the semi-finals of a European contest. As for the visitors, historically, this is the fourth time that they qualified in the semi-finals of a European contest. However, they last reached the semi-finals of a European contest during the 2001-02 season.

In the league table, Roma is sitting at the mid-table of the Serie A standings, sitting at the seventh place. Coming into this game, they do not have a good momentum here, as they are not at their best recently. Additionally, Roma is from a 2-0 loss against Inter Milan in their last game. They can get confidence though from the fact that this is their third straight semi-finals in the European stage. However, they are still aiming to prove a point in this match, especially that this match is a crucial one. This season, Roma have made a big progress, but they have been in a tough road recently. With that, they are hoping to bounce back from these results under the leadership of Paulo Dybala, who have been outstanding this season.

Roma is boosted by the return of Georginio Wijnaldum, and Paulo Dybala, as both already trained this week. However, Chris Smalling, and Marash Kumbulla are still both absent in this match. Zeki Celik on the other hand is returning, following his Serie A suspension.

Leverkusen on the other hand is sitting at the sixth of the Bundesliga standings, as they have been pretty impressive this season. However, they were not able to bring out their impressiveness on their last game. Just like their opponent, they are also from a 2-1 loss against FC Koln. With that, Leverkusen is hoping to be able to bounce back, as this game is an important one. Additionally, they are also hungry coming into this match, as this is the first time in more than two decades that they qualified in the semis of a European contest. Fortunately for them, they have been impressive in the European stage, so expect them to be a completely different team here. Florian Wirtz is expected to do wonders for Leverkusen, as have been doing wonders for his squad recently.

Unfortunately, they will be without Andrey Lunev, patrik Schick, and Charles Aranguiz for this match due to their injuries.

Prediction:

AS Roma (2.0)
